El guión gráfico de LoveStoned

A visually astonishing, psychedelic journey into the heart of the track rendered with a unique, groundbreaking hook, this Justin video will look unlike anything else out there…in fact unlike anything we have seen before.

Our inspiration for the visuals is – fittingly – the music. What I’m proposing is a little hard to describe, but hopefully with the visuals it’ll all make sense. The results would be amazing.

A spectrogram is a device which basically visualizes the sound spectrum. It does this by converting the audio frequencies into waveforms. In its simplest form think of the graphic equalizer.

But the process can also be reversed – in other words images can be converted into audio. Take a look at the attached visuals. These are images «hidden» in Aphex Twin’s «Windowlicker»…images created from sound, and revealed when that sound is visualized by the spectrogram.

As you can sese, the resulting sound-generated images have a very distinct, very unique look.

LoveStoned is equally unique. It’s an AMAZING song. And musically it’s very complex. Multiple tracks of intricately layered sounds (from beat-boxing to keyboards to Justin’s vocals) weave together to create the song, and the production is so good that you can hear every single one of them. I want to create a video that reflects that.

I also want to create a video that is as iconic and different as my video for «Crazy» was for Gnarls Barkley. That is so out there on it’s own.

So the video for LoveStoned will – literally – be made out of sound. Driven by the music itself. The reference examples only tell half the story. Imagine them in motion. Justin rendered in sound waves. Sound waves that move to the music, because they ARE the music. Different sound waves representing different elements of the music…reacting to the bass, or pulsing on the beat…as visually intricate as the music is complex. A video that literally IS the music.

We begin with a black screen. As the beat drops digital sound waves start to ripple with the music, visualizing the human beatboxing. Other waveforms appear as new elements are introduced in to the mix….

Then these waveforms twist and combine…still intricately synchronized to the music, byt now an image begins to form in the fuzz…Justin singing or moving in the centre of a dancefloor…the curves of a hot girl…her mouth…dynamic and full of movement…

On another cue the waveforms reconfigure as beautiful, pulsating patterns…kaleidoscopic and trippy…intricate and abstract. Bold and graphic one minute, ethereal like smoke the next….but always in motion, and always emphasising the music, the beat, the layers of sounds.

As the video progresses, new and more thrilling effects are gradually introduced. We push it right into a soundwave, until it fills the frame, or pull it out until it is a tiny dot. At times the waveforms appear three dimensional….moving and shifting so that viewed from one angle they resemble one thing, but then swinging around to reveal something else entirely.

But it won’t be all about the effect. Through intimate close-ups, rigourously graphic compositions and dynamic editing, we will capture the most vital, passionate Justin performance yet committed to film.

And when the song nears a climax we dissolve through soundwaves to reveal (the real, untreated) Justin serenading his girl in the middle of a strikingly designed and stylized set. A futuristic, monochromatic (white) Kubrick-esque/2001 dancefloor. As if we are inside the white hot core of the music itself.

The end result really will look unlike anything else. Something truly new and different for Justin, and an unforgettable visual for this amazing song.
