Justin Timberlake, Johnny Depp and Tyra Banks are among many A-list stars to fall off this year’s power list.
By most metrics, it’s been another noteworthy year for pop star Justin Timberlake.
The former boy bander scored a Grammy nod for his collaboration with Madonna and uber-producer Timbaland. He garnered more YouTube fame for his frequent appearances and digital shorts on Saturday Night Live. He added a brand of tequila, 901, to his merchandising empire. And he grabbed gobs of tabloid ink for a seemingly drama-free relationship with movie star Jessica Biel.
Yet all that wasn’t enough for Timberlake to earn a spot on the Celebrity 100, Forbes’ annual ranking of the world’s ultra famous. Without a lucrative tour–the primary revenue source for most musicians–Timberlake made a fraction of the $44 million he made the previous year, when he ranked 12th on the list; most of that money was earned from his FutureSex/LoveShow tour.

The 28-year-old triple threat–he sings, he dances, he acts–is one of 37 bold-faced names to fall from last year’s list. Without concert tours, blockbuster movies or lucrative endorsement deals to generate big earnings, many stars have trouble maintaining their place on the Celebrity 100, an annual power ranking based on entertainment-related earnings over a 12-month period as well as visibility in print, TV, radio and online. Every genre of celebrity is included on this list, from actors, athletes and comedians to authors, magicians and tween sensations.
