Justin Timberlake entrevista a Jada Pinkett por Matrix

Justin Timberlake entrevista a Jada Pinkett por Matrix

Justin Timberlake: Let’s get down to business. I want the skinny. How much training did you have to go through?

Jada Pinkett Smith: Well, as you know, when I first got the movie, I was nine months pregnant.

Justin Timberlake: So you had to take care of that business before.

Jada Pinkett Smith: Right. When Willow was two months [old], I started training. I had to lose weight. I had to strengthen my body up. The good thing was that I had a lot of flexibility, ‘cause while you’re breastfeeding — I don’t know if you know this yet, darling, but you will in time — there’s a chemical in your body, relaxin. And that makes you very flexible.

Justin Timberlake: I love how we all of a sudden got on the whole …

Jada Pinkett Smith: Yeah, you know, my breasts — that’s a good thing.

Justin Timberlake: [laughing] Yeah, breasts are a great thing. Anyways …

Jada Pinkett Smith: So I got my kicks down, worked out in the gym, put on about 15 pounds of muscle. I was in the gym about twice a day. It was very intense training.

Justin Timberlake: Wow. How many months did you have to …

Jada Pinkett Smith: I trained for the duration. Two years? A year and a half?

Justin Timberlake: So you’re the newcomer, the new face, the new kid on the block.

Jada Pinkett Smith: Yeah. But I’m coming with it.

Justin Timberlake: No, you are! I can’t even lie. Were you a big fan of the first one?

Jada Pinkett Smith: Oh yeah. Big time. I actually had an opportunity to meet with the Wachowski brothers for the first movie, and so when I found out that they had written Niobe for me, I was blown away.

I was nine months pregnant. They didn’t know I was pregnant, but I was like, «Don’t even worry about it. We’re gonna handle all that.»

Justin Timberlake: That’s cool. Your character Niobe comes in and we find out that Laurence Fishburne’s character, Morpheus, and her — there’s a lot of sexual tension. Was it fun to kind of play the vixen a little bit?

Jada Pinkett Smith: Well, she’s not a vixen, but she’s a strong woman, you know? It’s like, «OK, that situation didn’t flow properly but I’m on this situation now.»

Justin Timberlake: I like your character. You’re just, «I volunteer! I’ll go in and save them knuckleheads.»

Jada Pinkett Smith: The Logos is the fastest ship out of the fleet and that’s my ship. … I’m the best pilot in the fleet so, you know, something needs to be done … and I’m the one to handle it.

Justin Timberlake: Did Will actually get to visit you on set?

Jada Pinkett Smith: Oh, absolutely. He spent a lot of time in Australia. He’s trying to find a way to get into «The Matrix,» trying to figure out how he could be down with the movie. I said, «This ain’t your movie.»

Justin Timberlake: I noticed somebody who plays a character on your ship. Roy Jones Jr. right?

Jada Pinkett Smith: He’s not on my ship. He actually has his own.

Justin Timberlake: Oh, that’s right. Since Will did such extensive training for «Ali» and Roy [is a boxer], did they get a little spar going?

Jada Pinkett Smith: They did, but it was very short.

Justin Timberlake: I mean, I kicked it with Will and he’s a big dude, but Roy is a scary dude.

Jada Pinkett Smith: Roy is scary and is very fast and he’s very strong and he definitely had no problems showing Will who the professional boxer is, you know what I mean?

Justin Timberlake: Well, you kick ass in the movie.

Jada Pinkett Smith: Thank you very much, sir.

Justin Timberlake: And I enjoyed it. It gets deeper and better and the action gets crazier.

Jada Pinkett Smith: It’s all that. And in the second one it gets even deeper.

Justin Timberlake: Which, to those out there, is really the third one.

A lot of people don’t know, you know. The people who watch movies don’t really pay attention. You know who you are. … «The Matrix Reloaded» and «Revolutions» was written as one. That’s what I found out.

Jada Pinkett Smith: And the video game [«Enter the Matrix»] actually has film footage in it that intertwines with this movie.

Justin Timberlake: So you had to do all kinds of stuff for the video game as well?

Jada Pinkett Smith: Yeah, we had to do filming for the video game … Four months of motion capture so they could capture the kicks, the punches, the runs. We have scenes that we had to do.

Justin Timberlake: Do the certain characters have different …

Jada Pinkett Smith: Styles? Yeah. My style is like a rodent style. Something I made up by myself.

Justin Timberlake: Hey, that works.

Jada Pinkett Smith: The kung fu team kind of did a variation of things with me. She uses her feet and she’s all about avoiding, so she does …

Justin Timberlake: A lot of dodging.

Jada Pinkett Smith: In the picture. She doesn’t stand there, she’s like [makes kung fu moves]. You gotta keep it moving.

Justin Timberlake: Gotta keep it moving. That’s a great way to go out. Thank you.
