The world has been waiting years for a new Justin Timberlake album and now the 9-time GRAMMY Award winner has finally confirmed to Carson Daly that he's got something in the works.

"I don't know exactly when I'm going to put it out, but yeah, I'm definitely working on a new album", Timberlake revealed Friday on 97.1 AMP Radio.

But what will his fifth solo studio album sound like? He cited lots of influences from his Southern roots.

"Growing up in Tennessee, very central of the country, Memphis is known as being the birthplace of rock and roll, but also the home of the blues, but Nashville's right down the street so there's a lot of country music".

When Daly suggested JT could easily make a diverse album that includes collaborations with both Drake and country singer Chris Stapleton, Timberlake whole heartedly agreed.

"It's funny that you say that because you might be in my brain about certain types of collaborations coming up on my next album", he said. "But I haven't done any yet".

Before Timberlake releases his next solo project, he will be voicing a character in the upcoming Trolls film and executive producing the soundtrack. Earlier today, he released the first single from the movie, "Can't Stop The Feeling".

"I'm not going to be shy about saying that working on this soundtrack has bled into working on some other stuff for myself", he explained. "I kind of had been talking with Max [Martin] about maybe getting back into the studio just to get creative and then this project came up and so we just kind of jumped on and tackled it together and ended up writing this, in my opinion, like a banger".

In addition to performing on the soundtrack, the 35-year-old pop star has penned a few tunes for some other big names.

"I wrote a song for our very good mutual friend, Gwen. She's on the soundtrack. She's also in the movie. It's a banger! And [I] did one for Ariana Grande as well… but this one, 'Can't Stop The Feeling', I just got so excited about it because once we finished it I was like, 'You know, honestly I feel like I would just put this song out regardless of it was in the movie or not'".

Timberlake admits he was drawn to the Trolls project, in part, because of his young son Silas.

"The movie comes out in November, so hopefully by that time he'll be kind of into the toys and things like that. But yeah, I think it was kind of serendipitous in that way where having just had a son and going like, 'Wow! This is kind of cool!' But who knows? By the time he watches the movie, he'll probably be like, 'Dad! That's not cool!'"

Silas turned one year old in April and it's clear parenthood has changed Justin Timberlake in ways he never could have imagined.

"It's just one of those bridges you cross in life that everyone tries to explain to you and now I know why they couldn't explain it. You can't explain what happens. Here's what I'll say--all I know is I don't know what the hell I did before!" he said.

"It's an extremely humbling experience and I've never had more poop on my person! I was talking with someone the other day and they were like, 'Well, I have a dog!' But imagine when you clean up your dog's poop. You roll in there with the heavy duty Bounty paper towels and you stand like you've got a 10-foot pole away from it. I'm like, 'Dude, when you have a kid, you just get in there, man!'".
